Your performance is connected with your laptop.

It's not too late.

Hey ,

We, founders, spend 8-10 hours a day on screens, right?

Let’s do some Math:

Time spent yearly: 8 hours * 365 days (founders don’t rest) = 2920 hours

Total hours per year: 24*365 = 8760 hours

Time spent on screen: Total time= 2920/8760 (33% of 12 months)

The answer is almost 4 MONTHS every year.

Now that’s concerning, isn’t it?

Today at glance:

1. Screen usage is important but over usage have negative impact.
2. Actionable tips to reduce screen time without impacting your work.
3. 1 hack that worked wonders for me and other founders.

As a founder, we rely heavily on technology to drive our business forward, from managing emails, coding, managing financials, and meetings.

However, the constant barrage of screen time can lead to a range of negative consequences:

And the culprit behind our excess screen time is not our work but:

  1. Excessive Multitasking: Juggling too many tasks at once, reducing focus and efficiency.

  2. Neglecting Breaks: Forgetting to take regular screen breaks, causing eye strain and fatigue.

  3. Poor Work-Life Boundaries: Allowing work screen time to invade personal time, leading to burnout.

  4. Bad Ergonomics: Ignoring ergonomic setups, resulting in discomfort and posture issues.

  5. Blue Light Overexposure: Not managing blue light exposure, impacting sleep and health.

Do you find yourself trapped in any of these?

Because I did find myself trapped into these mistakes, but I’m glad that I realized it early.

Here are some ACTIONABLE tips that helped me and other founders:

  1. Tech-Free Zones: Designate screen-free areas at home or work for relaxation and non-digital activities.

  2. Screen Filters: Use blue light filters or glasses to reduce eye strain and maintain a healthy circadian rhythm.

  3. Digital Sunset: Establish a nightly screen shutdown time to unwind and prepare for better sleep quality.

  4. Offline Reading: Print articles or use e-ink devices for a more comfortable reading experience away from screens.

  5. Nature Breaks: Take short outdoor breaks to boost mood and energy levels without interrupting work flow.

Seems pretty easy? For you it is.

As a peer founder, I want to share a very simple technique that actually helped me and other founders in WeBuidl Community:

“20-20-20 rule”

  • 20 Minutes: For every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, take a 20-second break.

  • 20 Feet: During the break, focus on something at least 20 feet away to give your eyes a chance to relax and refocus.

  • 20 Blinks: Remember to blink frequently to help moisten your eyes and prevent dryness.

This simple technique helped me in preventing eye strain and fatigue caused by prolonged screen use, promoting healthier screen habits.

As founders, we should be managing our screens and not the other way.

a Super Founder

I hope this helps, if you have any questions, we’re all ears!

Stay tuned for the next one, which will take you one step closer in becoming a SUPER FOUNDER.
