Emotional Stability Matters?

It's a centre of many things!

Hey ,

Do you know startup founders and cricketers have one point of commonality?

We both face curveballs day in and day out.

Just, our playgrounds are different; for one it’s a cricket field and for the other, it is the startup world.

But, for both, it’s an everyday story.

We founders are well aware of the fact that instability and uncertainty can't be detached from startups.

So, the concerning question is how can we deal with such surprise and unexpected elements without getting affected?

We need to have an upper hand on our emotions as EMOTIONS are the center of everything we do.

Don’t believe it?

Hmm.. think of it like this.. when you decided to do a startup, was it a completely rational decision, or were emotions involved?

We didn’t jump into this unpredictable world of building business, without emotions attached to it.

So, fair and square, we as founders have to score high on emotional stability, as this wound enable us to stay calm, composed, and stress-resistant.

Emotional stability is the ability of a person to stay calm and balanced during stressful situations. A person who doesn’t let negative feelings impact oneself has a higher score on emotional stability.

But, how does this help founders?

If emotionally stable, founders will be better equipped to remain productive and capable, when times are tough.

If not, anger, fear, frustration, anxiety, and all negative emotions will take over, further creating a stressful situation that will have a negative impact on the overall business and its associated decisions.

Therefore, to ditch all the negativity,

Here are a few practical tips, that founders should use to improve their emotional stability:

  1. Schedule ‘No Work’ Time: Being a founder, we both know, that no matter how much we try not to, we work off the clock. It’s not in our hands, this is what our running startup demands.

But what is also in your hands, is to engage yourself in activities you enjoy doing, such as reading, cooking, and chilling with friends and family, at least once a week. This way we will feel emotionally fulfilled.

  2. Face your Feelings: With hundreds of things happening in your company, don’t ever ignore what’s happening inside you. Don’t take your emotions for granted. Address and deal with them, whether it’s anger, self-doubt, fear of failure, or anything. Try journaling, share your feelings with someone, or just give yourself a pep talk because you know yourself the best.

  3. Cater to your Physical Health: Believe it or not, for founders, a 30-45 minute workout can solve a lot of problems. Physical activity directly impacts our emotional stability. Regular exercise, balanced meals, and good sleep will reduce your stress and increase your resilience to the emotional challenges you face at work.

  4. Identify your Support Network or Build it: No founder would disagree that entrepreneurship is a lonely journey, Be part of support groups that have founders and peers like you in it. Leverage social media to find such communities. You can always join our Webuidl community.

  5. Make Mindfulness Meditation a routine chore: Meditating daily can help us deal with our overwhelming emotions. 10 minutes a day is all you need to take out. You can try using apps like Calm, and Headspace which will help in stress management.

Please try to include this simple yet game-changing practice called Nadi Shodhana in your routine.

Nadi Shodhana is basically alternate-nostril breathing, which helps in clearing and purifying the mind-body organism while bringing balance to the system as a whole.
